Have you ever been out on a dark night and seen a little pinprick of light, way off in the distance? Here in Colorado we have beautiful mountains, and on the clearest nights, you can sometimes see tinys point of light coming from up on those mountains. These little lights can be a metaphor for our hopes and dreams for the future. And my simple message for you today is this: it's okay to walk towards those lights, but never by those lights.
When we carry the light of Christ and His word, then we will see clearly where we step. And we are free to continue this journey, by His light, towards our dreams. But when we set down His light, and run off into the night, chasing our little dream lights without Him, this is when we smack our faces in branches, stumble over rocks, and fall into ravines. Abandoning the way of Christ to chase riches, success, or any other dream is idolatry.
In the news recently was a story about a woman who landed her dream job, but then gave it up almost immediately because she realized how much of her time it would rob from her family. She could have turned her back on her kids, running off into the darkness, but she chose the way of Christ. And so should we all.
